Talven Text verification
Font checks rerun on 3 October 2026. Release 0.101.
Font checks
FontBakery 1.1.0 universal profile ran separately on the variable font and the five static fonts. This avoids treating the variable and static Regular files as duplicate installed styles.
| Set | Pass | Warning | Failure or error | Skipped |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Variable TTF | 100 | 2 | 0 | 22 |
| Five static TTFs | 366 | 15 | 0 | 191 |
All six TTFs passed the OpenType Sanitizer check. Network-dependent checks were disabled. These results are technical checks, not a readability study or a complete font certification.
Warnings were reviewed:
- The caron check cannot inspect decomposed glyphs automatically. The side accents were reviewed in rendered text. The changed ľ was also measured across nine weights.
- Mathematical symbols retain unequal proportional advances from the source. This is a body-text font, not a mathematical typesetting family.
- The static contour-count heuristic flags ę and ł because attached marks remain separate overlapping contours. Their outlines and rendered output were inspected. Their Unicode mappings are correct.
The custom verification script passed 112 checks. It covers family identity, license metadata, codepoint coverage, table round trips, zero-width combining marks, weight range, named instances, tabular numerals, changed accented variants, side-accent clearance, and static-versus-variable shaping.
At weights 300 through 700 in steps of 50, mixed Latin text shaped without missing glyphs. The changed ç, ę, Į, and ł matched the advances and base contours of their corresponding letters. The ľ had at least 37 font units of right clearance at sampled weights.
Raw check reports are in verification/. Font hashes are in font-manifest.json.
Rename checks
All seven generated font files were compared with the previous release. Only the name table and header changed. Glyph outlines, metrics, substitutions, positioning, and variation tables are identical. Every font uses the Talven Text family name, and no name record retains the former family name. The manifest hashes match all seven files. Results are in verification/rename-checks.json.
Website checks
The website was rebuilt as an Astro project on 3 October 2026. The checks in this paragraph cover the rebuilt site. astro check reported no errors and the production build completed. In the T3 Code preview browser, the pages were checked at 1440, 1200, and 390 pixels wide, in the light and dark themes, without horizontal page overflow. The custom WOFF2 loaded. The hero metric lines matched the measured cap height, x-height, and baseline of the rendered font. The outline comparison, reader, blur comparison, glyph explorer, and tabular-figure switch changed the page as intended. Sample text is checked against character-coverage.txt during the build. Clipboard copy, Safari, Firefox, Windows rendering, and screen readers were not tested.
The checks below describe the previous static site, which is now in work/archive/site-v0.101/. The full check was performed on 2 October 2026. After the rename on 3 October, the browser confirmed that the custom Talven Text font rendered the reading sample. Font selection and CSS copy used the new name, and no browser warnings or errors appeared. The renamed page fit both the 1440-pixel desktop viewport and the 390-pixel mobile viewport without horizontal page overflow.
The site was checked in the Codex in-app browser through a local HTTP server. The checks included:
- The custom WOFF2 loaded, with the intended family and variable weight.
- The desktop layout and a 390-pixel mobile viewport rendered without page overflow.
- The reader survived maximum size, tracking, word spacing, and line-length settings on the mobile layout.
- Weight, size, line height, spacing, theme, and font comparison changed the rendered styles.
- Custom passage text appeared as text, without HTML interpretation. Reset restored the original passage and settings.
- CSS copy reported success, and the glyph explorer displayed the chosen character and codepoint.
- The browser reported no JavaScript warnings or errors in the checked states.
- Local asset and download links were checked against the delivered files.
The main text contrast is 12.15:1. Secondary text has at least 5.58:1 contrast on its intended background. Control borders were darkened to exceed 3:1 on the reader background. Focus outlines on dark sections use the light accent color.
This was a focused visual and functional check. It is not a full WCAG conformance audit. Screen-reader testing, Safari and Firefox testing, Windows rendering, and reader studies remain future work. Direct file: opening was not verified. Use the local server instructions for the checked preview route.
Known scope limits
The family has 394 glyphs and 366 encoded codepoints. It supports Latin text, with coverage listed in character-coverage.txt. It has no designed italic and no full Greek or Cyrillic alphabet. It has smart dropout control but no manual or automatic outline hinting. Keep variable and static versions as alternative installation choices.
No speed, accuracy, comprehension, or dyslexia benefit has been measured for Talven Text.
